Yi Jing consultation in Courbevoie - hexagrams of the Book of Changes

Do you sometimes go round in circles when facing an important decision? Weighing the pros and cons without ever deciding? Sometimes, it isn't more advice you need, but another perspective.

The Yi Jing (the Book of Changes) is one of the oldest texts of Chinese civilisation. For 3,000 years, it has accompanied human decisions, from emperors to everyday people.

A 3,000-year-old history

According to sinologist Cyrille Javary, it all began with tortoise shells thrown into the fire. The heat caused cracks, interpreted by shamans as messages from the spirits, an art called chelonomancy.

As tortoises became scarcer, people moved on to animal shoulder blades (scapulomancy), then, over the centuries, a work of simplification reduced all situations of human life to 64 symbols: the hexagrams.

That is how the Yi Jing was born, coming down through the ages to us, refined by generations of Chinese scholars.

How a consultation works

1. Formulating the right question

It all starts with a conversation. You tell me about your situation, your project, your doubt, and together we formulate the question to ask the Yi Jing.

This step is subtler than it seems: the Yi Jing never answers "yes" or "no". It does not predict the future, it sheds light on a situation.

To understand it well: imagine you are crossing an unknown country and a mountain rises in front of you. You meet a farmer who has lived there all his life. He can't guarantee that you will reach the other side safely, but he can observe your equipment, the season, your condition, and tell you how to maximise your chances.

The Yi Jing is that farmer. The mountain is your project.

2. The drawing

Two traditional methods exist:

  • Yarrow stalks (50 stalks, a long and complex ritual)
  • Coins (the method I favour, more fluid)

With three coins, tossed six times while thinking about your question, a hexagram gradually forms, a symbol made of six Yin and Yang lines.

A hexagram is a symbol made of 6 lines, some representing Yin and others Yang

3. The interpretation

I rely on Cyrille Javary's reference work to decipher your hexagram. The answer is often enigmatic, symbolic. I help you connect it concretely to your original question.

The session always ends with a time of energy rebalancing, related to the topic addressed.

What kinds of questions?

The Yi Jing is especially relevant for:

  • An important life choice (professional, personal)
  • A project that worries you or blocks you
  • A situation where you have been going round in circles for a long time
  • A need to step back before a decision

It is not a fortune-telling practice: the Yi Jing does not predict the future and does not replace any medical, legal or financial decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Yi Jing predict the future? ▼

No. The Yi Jing does not predict the future; it offers insight into a present situation, based on the context you describe during the consultation.

What kind of question can I ask? ▼

Any open question about a project, a choice or a life situation. Closed questions (yes/no) don't work with the Yi Jing: together, before the session, we formulate the right question.

Is it compatible with my beliefs / my religion? ▼

The Yi Jing is a Chinese philosophical and symbolic tool, with no religious dimension. It can be approached as a tool for reflection, regardless of your personal convictions.

How long does a session last? ▼

About 1h30, including the initial exchange, the drawing, the interpretation and a time of energy rebalancing.

Can I ask several questions during one session? ▼

Generally, a session focuses on one specific issue, to allow an in-depth interpretation. We discuss it together depending on your need.

The Yi Jing is not a magic wand. It is an ancient mirror, which helps you see more clearly into your complex situations, with wisdom that has spanned three millennia.
