Acu-Lifting in Courbevoie: facial acupuncture in Chinese medicine

The face, mirror of our story

The face is not just a matter of appearance. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is seen as an open book on our life story, our emotions, our inner vitality.

Acu-Lifting is a method that uses acupuncture needles on the face, with both an aesthetic and an energetic approach. The aim: to help release facial tension, and restore radiance and vitality to the face.

As Nguyen Thanh-Phong, who trained me in this practice, puts it:

“My facial lifting sessions through acupuncture integrate a holistic vision of the person. The expression of wrinkles is not purely physical. It is also a reflection of our emotional life and represents our life story…”

How a session works

Each session includes:

  • A facial treatment with facial massage, to prepare the skin and tissues, and bring the person into a state of relaxation before the needles are placed.
  • The placement of very fine needles on precise points of the face and sometimes the body. The treatment is generally almost painless.
  • A rest period, then a final massage after the needles have been removed.
  • Personalised advice on lifestyle and the use of essential oils in Chinese medicine.

An ancient practice, rediscovered today

Acu-Lifting techniques have their roots in the Asian “medical cosmetics” tradition, which goes back roughly 2,000 years.

These beauty practices, once reserved for empresses and imperial concubines, already combined acupuncture and medicinal plants, with a goal similar to today's: preserving the natural radiance of the skin and gently accompanying the ageing of the face.

More recently, in 2011, a study conducted at Kyung Hee University Hospital (South Korea) looked at the effects of facial acupuncture, with interesting observations regarding skin elasticity and muscle tone. These results deserve to be confirmed by further research, but they echo the experience handed down for centuries by this practice.

How it works, according to traditional Chinese medicine

On the physical level, Acu-Lifting helps release facial tension, contributes to a balance between the areas that are more toned and more relaxed, and can help visually soften certain creases.

But beyond the purely physical aspect, this practice also acts (according to the Chinese energetic reading) on a deeper level:

  • It regulates Qi (vital energy), blood and body fluids.
  • It harmonises the flow of energy along the facial meridians.
  • It helps to clarify the Shen: the spirit, the inner vitality that can be read in the gaze and the expression of the face.

The face expresses the different facets of our existence. Taking care of it, in this approach, is also taking care of what it tells.
